Thanks guys. As you can probably tell, I had a hard time trying to nail down the quirks of gakusei iai in English. In Japanese it’s equally as hard, but I suspect the words 深み and 風格 would come up.

I was keen to describe what it was like to be a member of a university club, as the experience was very different to keiko at any other dojo I’ve been to. One thing I don’t miss is the prolonged leg conditioning, as useful as it is. If either of you have yet to be put through the torture of 膝浮かし I’ll introduce you to it when I come to visit.
