Series

Opening ceremony

We have published almost 150 articles since going live in August 2008. Most are isolated pieces dealing with a particular topic, but others are (sometimes loosely!) grouped into a series of articles. This page was designed in order for you to search for these articles more easily. Note that some of these series are ongoing, with more parts planned in the future.

Please also use the Category drop-down and Tag cloud on the right hand menu to help find archive material (there is a lot of it).

Kendo Places
These are areas you should visit or at least know about, that pertain to the history of or have a direct current impact on kendo. This is an ongoing series.

Kendo People
Information about people who were or are influential, or who (we think) should be more widely known to the kendo audience outside of Japan. Of course, some of the people mentioned may not be that well known in Japan itself. This is an ongoing series.

The Tanka of Eishin-ryu
A short series looking in-depth at the tanka related to Eishin-ryu iaido. A must for all iaidoka. (some articles have yet to be published)

Summer Musha Shugyo 2009
A short series of 4 articles based on my Musha Shugyo (warriors pilgrimage!) I did in August 2009.

Dead Or Dying
A short series about waza that are rarely used, are pretty much dead, or discussion about kendo theory that is not much talked about nowadays. (finished for the time being)

Pre-war Kendo
One of our most popular series – a six part translation of sections of Takano Sasaburo’s book Kendo Kyuhon, one of the most important books in modern kendo’s history.

Meijin no waza
A series that details the techniques of famous sensei. Very much in a starting phase.

DIY
Some kendo DIY articles!
